"These Walls Are High...The Sky Higher Still"
I'm a big fan of Women of the Calabash. I was deeply inspired to paint this picture while listening
to The Kwanzaa Album. Each woman in this piece spoke to me as I painted them, saying things like,
This is my expression,
This is the joy in my eyes,
Paint my soul this way.
No matter what their suffering was, no matter how much chaos they lived in, they could always
look to the sky and know in their heart of hearts that,
The sky is always there,
Even when there's clouds, the blue sky is always behind them.
That's where our soul lives,
There are no limits there,
We will reach for the sky.
